Bro. Jonathan Sims
Jonathan Sims is the Senior Pastor of SMBC. He is a native of Alabama and a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. He and his wife Kala have five children: Emily and Kevin Stewart, Aimee and Joshua Branson, Julie and Stephen McLanahan, Nathan, and Ashleigh.
Bro. Joe Carpenter
Bro. Joe is responsible for Missions, Senior Adult Ministry, Biblical Counseling, and assists with preaching. He is a native to Middle Tennessee and a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. He and his wife, Ashley, have been married for eighteen years. They have four children: Samuel (13), Joey (11), Simon (8), and Abigail (3).
Bro. Ryan Tilghman
Ryan Tilghman is an Associate Pastor of SMBC. He is responsible for our children’s ministry, small group ministry, and church administration. He is a native of Columbia, TN and a graduate from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN. He is currently taking Master of Divinity classes through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Paige, a native of Shelbyville, and life-long member of SMBC, love their local church and their community. They are very involved with Shelbyville Central High School, where Ryan is a volunteer assistant coach for the football team, and Paige assists him in loving and supporting the young men of that program.
Bro. David Brown
David is responsible for the preaching ministry of Christ Baptist Church, a Church Plant of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church. He is a native of middle Tennessee, a graduate of the University of North Alabama with a BS degree in Nursing, and a 1994 graduate of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Religious Education. Prior to entering the ministry, David worked as a Registered Nurse in Emergency/Trauma, Cardiac Care, and Neonatal Intensive Care. He and his wife Lisa, have two children, Anna and Austin. David has served on staff at Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church since July 2000 as associate pastor overseeing administration, education, missions, senior adults, and children. He is the founder of Divide-The-Truth Ministries that has served over 100 churches in the last 16 years with Sunday School notes that “rightly divide the word of truth.” In view of starting Christ Baptist Church, he discontinued this ministry in May 2017 so he could focus his attention on the new church
Bryan is responsible for the worship music including leading the choir. Bryan is a native of Kentucky and holds post-secondary degrees from Carson-Newman University, Middle Tennessee State University, and Trevecca Nazarene University. Bryan is also a middle school administrator by day. He and his wife, Hope, have four children: Aaron, Aaric, Anna, and Andrew.
Bro. Jared Jones
College and Career Director
Jared is responsible for directing the college and career group. He was born in Matoon, IL but spent the majority of his life in McMinnville, TN. A graduate of Bryan College, Jared holds degrees in Secondary Education and History. Currently, he is a high school teacher educating students in economics, US history, and US government. He and his wife, Karyn, have three children: Addie, Micah, and Jack.
Bro. Tyler Bowman
Tyler is responsible for directing the youth. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematical Science. Currently, he teaches Math at Riverdale High School. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for eight years and have four children: Knox(6), Mason(5), Titus(2), and Cora (10 months).
Darla Damron has served as Administrative Secretary for fourteen years. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She has been married to John for eighteen years. They have three daughters: Lucy (10), Katherine (7), and Jenna (5).
Senior Pastor's Secretary
Kelsey Whaley serves as the Senior Pastor’s Secretary. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. Previously, she taught art at Marshall County High School for five years. Kelsey has been married to Caleb for five years. They have a son, Benton Asher, who is six months old.
